About the Instruction Designer Job

Are you the go-to when friends and family need something assembled, installed, or repaired? Would you rather do it yourself than call a professional? Do you have more in your toolbox than a pair of scissors and a roll of duct tape? Do you know how to spell duct tape? Do you have a positive attitude and pay attention to detail? Are you artistic and a visual communicator? We’re looking for mechanically inclined people with experience in animation or technical illustration.

BILT is seeking animators, technical illustrators, and graphic artists to be trained as BILT instruction designers to create content for the BILT app. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, have a strong work ethic, and who can take direction and communicate effectively. BILT Instruction Designers work in teams with account managers and salespeople to help brands and manufacturers provide an empowering 3D interactive instruction experience.

Instruction Designer Responsibilities

  • Interpret existing 2D instructions and customer CAD to create 3D animations
  • Utilize CAD applications (3D modeling is a plus)
  • Manage complex tasks from start to finish with tight deadlines in modeling, CAD, and technical writing
  • Read and understand complex manuals and technical documentation
  • Display strong technical writing and grammar skills
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail
  • Learn quickly

Instruction Designer Position Qualifications

  • Proficiency in software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies like Agile, Test-driven development
  • Solid computer skills and a working knowledge of Arthur, MS Office, and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating required skills with focus on typography, color, imagery, motion, and graphic elements
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university is desirable; will consider other education or relevant experience in lieu of formal degree

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones, photocopiers, email, and various communication programs (Zoom, Teams, Workfront, etc.)  This is not a remote position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the employee to lift at least 25 pounds infrequently.
